Varrock City Guide

Varrock is the largest city in the free to play version of RuneScape and also the capital of Misthalin. It has great links to the rest of the free to play world map including the wilderness, Lumbridge and Falador.

Entrances
Being the capital of Misthalin this city is heavily guarded. There are four ways into Varrock.

The North Gate

To get through here, players generally come through the wilderness.

The East Gate

From this gate, there is a path that leads directly to Lumbridge. So many newer players use this gate when they have little knowledge of the world map.

The West Gate

This entrance comes from Barbarian village and even further west - Falador. So because of this, players will use this gate when heading for those areas.

The South Gate

Although it may come directly from Lumbridge, many newer players avoid using this entrance as there are aggressive dark wizards near to it. Just south of this gate is the Champions guild.

Teleportation/Transportation into Varrock

Varrock Teleport

Spirit Tree (1)

Once you have completed the Gnome Village quest, you will be able to use spirit trees like these to teleport to different areas in RuneScape. They are many of these all over RuneScape and you can teleport to one of them using one of these trees.

Canoe (2)

This system starts all the way from Lumbridge. Depending on your woodcutting level, you can use these to build your own boat and go down the stream to either Lumbridge, Barbarian Village or Edgevill. You will need an axe to chop down a tree and make your wooden log or boat out of to sail down the stream.

Banks in Varrock
There are currently 3 banks in Varrock, 2 of which are easily accessed by free to play players and members alike.

Varrock East Bank (3)
This small bank is popular for essence trade, since it is very close to the essence mine. So because this bank is the closest in Varrock to the wilderness ditch, it is common to see people trading player killing items (food, potions ect.). Due to its size, this bank becomes very over populated on busier worlds.

Varrock West Bank (4)
This bank is very popular in world 1 for its trading of god armour and other expensive items. The area inside the bank and outside the bank is full all around and near the northern side of the bank, this is where the god armour is sold and bought.

Cooking Guild Bank (5)
This is a bank that has been placed here as a reward for completing the hard version of the achievement diary in Varrock. This is the only way to access it by completing the hard version of the achievement diary. It is not commonly used yet but it might be in the future.

Varrock General Store (6)
This is the general store of Varrock. Almost anything can be sold here. Mostly all tradeable items can be sold here. You usually see lots of different things sold here in the free worlds of RuneScape. This is one of the most common places for new players to sell their items or other low combat levels.

Weaponry Shop (7)
In here, some of the finest weapons for low combat level users are stored in this shop. Treasure trail weapons such as black swords are sold here but take quite a long time to restock, but since the shop update, this may have changed.

Varrock Clothes Shop (8)
At this shop, you can change your clothes you chose when you begun RuneScape at Tutorial Island. There are many new clothes to chose from than what there were before so it shouldn't be that hard to choose from. You will be charged for the change of clothes so bring money with you.

Staff Shop (9)
In this shop, you can buy the main staffs such as an air staff, water staff and others. These are staffs you wield which make you require no runes to do a spell depending on the type of staff you have. The staff you have, the infinity type of runes you have.

Fancy Dress Shop (10)
This is where you can buy all sorts of clothes aswell such as eye patches and all of your hunter needed clothes like Gloves of Silence. You can sell crimson swift feathers here and other things. It's a dead area normally as not many people come down here much.

Chainmail Shop (11)
This is where you can buy your basic chainmail. Also somewhere in this shop, plate bodies are sold aswell. It takes quite a while also for the shop keepers to restock before an update like the others but now, that all been changed. There are infinite stock in most shops.

Magic Shop (12)
This shop sells basic runes that normal new players would buy. It also sells death runes. The master of Runecrafting owns this shop and he wears his skillcape there to sybolise that. He is well known for teleporting people to the rune essence mine once you have completed Rune Mysteries.

Archery Shop (13)
In this shop, you can buy many type of powerful arrows such as mithril and adamant arrows. You ca also buy bows here aswell. This shop is always used but is sometimes used. More experienced players buy there arrows from other RuneScape players as they are sold at a cheaper price.

Altar (14)
This altar is near the wilderness and therefor would probably be the most used altar in Varrock. The person inside there can help you during the Romeo and Juliet quest. It doesn't really have anything else worth knowing about but it recieved a nice graphical update making it look nicer.

Champions' Guild (15)
This guild requires a certain amount of quest points to be able to be entered. Once you enter the guild, you are given the option to complete this quest known as Dragon Slayer, the hardest of all of the free quests. It sells adamant armour and some rune weaponry.

Varrock Museum (16)
Before an update, the museum of Varrock used to be a small area with only one floor and not as many artifacts as there are now. After an update to it, it has been moved downstairs with artifacts of dragons and monsters for display. It has been decorated well and a place that lies within the history of Varrock.

Lumber Yard (17)
Lumber Yard is an area where you go during Gertrude's Cat quest but is well know for people's construction needs. There is a sawmill operator who sells equipment such as saws and can make planks for you for a price. This is the main use for this area.

Mining Site (18)
Here, there are the basic ores that you can mine to make bronze bars and there is iron ore here. This mining site is a bit popular on a free to play server but on a members server, it's not that full so you shouldn't have trouble with getting your ores here.

Combat Training Area (19)
Not many people use this area of Varrock as many new players never leave Lumbridge until they get a high skill level and combat level and the courage to explore. By this time, they will have a high level and wont be allowed to use the area as they don't need to train here.

Dungeon (20)
Down here is where some players train their combat levels and also come down here to find a key for the Demon Slayer quest. There are tunnels down here and sewers. It's not that dangerous down here unless your a low combat level and start attacking high leveled monsters.

Anvil (21)
This is where lots of free players cab easily make there metallic needs and place it in the bank nearby for their needs. The walls around it have been broken down but this could have been to do with the Demon many years ago who destroyed Varrock. You can find more about this in the Demon Slayer quest.

Trees (22)
What are you thinking? They're just a bunch of trees!

Varrock Palace (23)
In this palace, this is where the current King of Varrock is. This palace also holds some of the greatest memories of Varrock. It's well decorated and has painting around the area as well as a garden.

Cadava berries respawn area (24)
In this area, you will find a lot of cadava berries lying around. This is where they respawn and where most people get the berries from during the Romeo and Juliet quest.

Wilderness Ditch (25)
This ditch separates the good from evil. After the ditch leads a terrible area known as the wilderness. Here, if you die, you can loose your items. The wilderness ditch was built to prevent luring into the wilderness and now makes it a much safer way to enter the wilderness. It is very hard to accidentally enter.
