Introduction
Welcome to this Woodcutting guide! Woodcutting is one of the main three resource skills. With it you can collect all types of logs which you can use to make furniture for construction, bows for ranging, or burn for firemaking.
Axes
Vital to woodcutting are axes (or hatchets), which are needed to cut down the trees. You can get axes made of all the main metals in RuneScape. The higher quality the metal, the faster you can chop logs with them.
This shows what type of axes there are, and where you get them from.
| Axe | Level | Obtained from |

Machetes
For cutting the thick vines of the jungles of Karamja, you need a sharper, faster item than an axe. The instrument of choice is a machete, which is the only thing that you can use to chop through any type of jungle wood. There are several types of machete, starting with the plain one, and finishing with the gem-edged ones.

Birds' Nests

Everyone once in a while, while Woodcutting, a Bird Nest might fall on the ground. This Bird Nest might contain Tree, Fruit Tree, or Special Tree seeds. They almost may contain rings, up to Diamond. If you're really lucky, your nest might contain a Birds Egg, which will be used with the new skill, Summoning! There are four different eggs, Red, Blue, Green and Raven eggs.
You can increase your chances of getting a Bird Nest by wearing a Rabbit-Foot Necklace. This requires 24 Hunter to wear.
Once you take whatever is in the Nest out of it, you can crush your empty bird nest, with a Pestal & Mortar, to get a crushed bird nest. You can sell these to other players, or you can use them to make Saradomin Brews, if you have the appropriate Herblore level.
Ents

Every once in a while, your tree might turn into an Ent. If you aren't careful, the Ent might break your axe, so be watchful! If an Ent did break your axe, you can go to Bob in Lumbridge to fix it, but it will cost you.
Tree Spirit

Occasionally, while cutting, you will have a random called a "Tree Spirit". Your combat level will determine the combat level of the tree spirit. You will stop cutting if you have a Tree Spirit random event, and you can either run away from it, or fight it. A Tree Spirit, may drop a Mithril, Adamanat or Rune axe, they also drop a few other things.
Skillcape
Once you have achieved 99 Woodcutting, you may head to the Woodsman Tutor. The Woodsman Tutor is a tiny bit north-east of Lumbridge Castle. You will need 99k to buy the Woodcutting Cape and Hood.

You can obtain these from the Temple Trekking/Burgh de Rott Ramble minigame. There are four pieces to this set, and each piece gives a slight experience bonus to each log cut. Level 44 Woodcutting is required to wear Lumberjack clothing. All pieces of Lumberjack are untradable.
